All the Single Ladies!

Maybe Beyonce had the right idea. A new study shows that women get along just fine without men. True, this study published in the UK Guardian relates to tropical ants, but it may hold true for human beings as well. While men may not be too happy about this study, other studies have been shown to back up this theory. Men are more likely to die within two years of the death of their spouse than women. Significant? Maybe, maybe not. Interesting? Absolutely.


This theory does seem refute the idea that all women are in competition with each other. Or as comedian Adam Carolla so aptly put it, all women are competing in a "Semen Olympics". Hilarious. And frankly, quite true. All women seem to have a strange jealousy/competition element with one another. The minute we encounter another woman we size her up. There are biological factors that seem to be responsible for this (women out number men, so in order to populate the planet, women must compete with one another for a partner with which to reproduce. In other words, the Semen Olympics at their best). But the competition is brutal. If you've ever seen Mean Girls you know how bad it can get. Tina Fey hit the nail on the head with that movie.

Regardless of all these factors, shout out to all the independent women!
